What is international about the IPC?

June 12th, 2009

Dear Colleague,

The blog is back after a short break.

I have published two new pages and have sent these to you by email. I have also emailed a chapter about teaching the IPC.

All of these area will be covered during our Staff Induction programme, but reading these in advance and reflecting on how they affect you or how you relate to these principles and beliefs will help to prepare you better.

Our school has around 50 different nationalities in the student body. The staff is not quite as diverse as that, but we have made a concentrated effort in the last two years to recruit a staff that is more diverse both nationality-wise and culturally. We all bring a different level of understanding and it is great to discuss and share what we understand by internationalism / international schools / international education.

If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please share them on the blog.

Enjoy a great end of term.

IPC Beliefs and Principles

May 15th, 2009

The reading gives the background about the IPC, please have a look and reflect on what it means to you.

During your interview, you were asked to tell us about what learning means to you. At CISD, we have our own Definition of Learning – it goes with the Mission and Vision in every classroom – and informs the Looking for Learning visits we make. We keep asking ourselves whether the children are learning and how do we know. To make a start on this, we need a common understanding of what learning means and as a school we have decided that;

Learning is making connections between new and existing knowledge, skills and understanding to adapt to out changing world.

Other schools and organisations express this in different ways, but this is what works for us right now.

I would like you to reflect on the CISD definition of learning and think about how it fits into your own personal philosophy.

Personalising your posts

May 13th, 2009

You can personalise your posts by changing your user name – that way we know who you are – and by changing your avatar. There’s a link to follow within the comments on the first post. Best thing is to upload a small square picture. Mine was rectangular which makes me look thinner (so I’m not complaining) and less than 30KB.

Say Hello

Congratulations for logging onto the blog. Why not write a very brief introduction about yourself as a comment replying to this post.

Welcome to the CISD IPC Reflections blog

May 13th, 2009

Welcome to the blog. Please take a look at the comments and reflections that have been written and feel free to add your own.

We hope that you will take time to reflect on the philosophy of the IPC, a philosophy that we intend to underpin learning through the whole of our school – from 3 to 18.

Please share your personal experiences and understanding and we hope that you will get to know your future colleagues a little better through this exchange of views.
